## Neighborhood
Villeurbanne offers all the advantages of a big city in a greener and quieter environment, with direct access to the chic 6th arrondissement and the Part-Dieu district. With the metro, tram, or bus, you can quickly access all of Lyon’s neighborhoods thanks to the extensive public transportation options.
Villeurbanne enjoys a lively neighborhood life, with a mix of young people, families, and retirees, and offers many cultural facilities, sports complexes, associations, numerous shops, schools, high schools, and universities.
The diversity of its residents makes Villeurbanne unique and vibrant. With a strong cultural heritage, Villeurbanne has historical sites like the Gratte-Ciel, City Hall, Théâtre National Populaire, Anatole France school, the Maison du Livre de l'Image et du Son, Studio 24, the Astroballe (ASVEL), and the former Bayard and Bally factories. The city continues to grow with new districts like Terrain des Sœurs, where our Carrare development is currently being marketed.
Culture: Villeurbanne is lively with varied venues and large, unifying, and creative events throughout the year. Public and private theaters (TNP, Théâtre de l’IRIS), the National School of Music, concert halls (Toï Toï Le Zinc and Transbordeur), IAC (Institute of Contemporary Art), an independent cinema (the retro-style Zola), cultural centers (Rize and the CCO), a Ninkasi like in Lyon, the Maison de l'Image et du Son (THE city media library), Les Invites, the short film festival, and the youth book festival.
Sports: Many sports facilities and high-level competition at the Astroballe for our basketball champions!
Two large markets: the “Gratte-Ciels” market on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and especially Saturdays; and the fabulous Place Wilson market on Wednesdays, Fridays, and especially Sundays, offering a family-friendly and lively atmosphere with unbeatable prices (you can enjoy breakfast on the terrace at Bettant, while others prefer a glass of wine at the refreshment stand).
A few good addresses and neighborhood highlights:
The Brotteaux district is typically Lyonnais, with its terraces and festive spots.
The Gratte-Ciel district, the heart of Villeurbanne, offers typical 1930s architecture (City Hall, TNP) and many food shops.
The Canal Flea Market: a mini Saint-Ouen that’s a fun alternative to the pricey hipster shops in the city center.
The Transbordeur, THE best concert venue in Lyon (in our opinion) is in Villeurbanne!
An excellent library network with many events organized throughout the year.
The Institute of Contemporary Art, with its edgy exhibits, is just next door!
The Invites festival attracts more and more Lyon residents each year.
The famous Tête d'Or Park with its zoo.
All other Lyon neighborhoods are less than 15 minutes away by public transport.
