The Tomatina Festival in Buñol, Spain is one of the biggest food fight festivals in the world. Hundreds or maybe thousands of people from all over the world will gather in the streets to throw tomatoes at each other.
Buñol is just a small town in Spain with merely 9000 inhabitants. This historical town is located in the province of Valencia in Spain. The story goes that the festival originated when a musician fell from a stage and knocked over some tomatoes in 1945. The local government tried to cancel the festival but without any luck.
If you want to join you have to follow some rules. You can only throw tomatoes, and you have to squash them before throwing them. You have to make way for the trucks as well and stop when the timer alarm goes off.
Children can participate in a small Tomato battle to get something of the fun as well. These mini battles will last 30 to 40 minutes and are for kids between 4 and 14 years old. The event for children is free. Adults have to get tickets to enjoy the biggest food fight in the world.
