The Great Roman Games is an event which is held annually in the city of Nîmes, France. The Roman Empire extended all the way to France and included the city of Nîmes. Nîmes is a well-preserved example of a Roman Empire city and therefore a good backdrop for the Great Roman Games.

From all around Europe people will visit the city of Nîmes to re-enact ancient Roman times. Most of the games are held around the historical amphitheater, which is a remarkable example of Roman architecture. Inside the theater, you can see a spectacle of carriage races, gladiator fights, and great battles. It is a truly magnificent sight to see the more than 500 reenactors run around the amphitheater.

The D-Day Festival in Normandy is held every year to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed themselves here in the second world war. There are several events and ceremonies along the coast of Normandy.

On the 6th of June in 1944 the allied troops from England and the United States landed on the French shore in Normandy. The goal was to finally liberate Europe from German occupancy. The efforts of the allied troops were successful and eventually led to the German surrendering. But these efforts were not without a fight and many lost their lives fighting for freedom. World War II has to be remembered forever to pay tribute to the fallen and make sure this will never happen again.

The festival will be held every year on a local scale. But every five years the celebrations and commemorations are more international showcasing military displays, parades, and fireworks. Most of the ceremonies take place on the first day. Most events take place on Omaha Beach or Utah Beach.

The Cheese festival of Gruyères will be held every year on the first Sunday in May. And is the place to taste this legendary cheese and enjoy everything this region has to offer.

The Flower Festival in Noto is called Inforiata in Italian. Inforiata festivals are held throughout Italy, but the one in Noto on Sicily is one of the best. That is because the flower designs in the streets are the most elaborate and the surrounding activities plentiful.

The Flower Festival in Noto is an annual event held in the third week of May. A couple of months before the festival they will choose a theme, so the artists can start working on their designs. On Friday evening they will start making the outlines of their designs which they will fill with thousands of flower petals during the night.

By Saturday morning the streets of Noto are filled with a carpet of colorful and aromatic flowers with intricate designs. But that’s not all. There are plenty of other activities like exhibitions, food- and wine tasting, guided tours, and concerts.

One of the highlights of the festival is the baroque historical parade. This parade is a display of the long history of the town. It is held on Sunday around 5 pm.

The medieval festival of Sedan will be held every year in May in the castle of Sedan. You can find this château in the most northern part of France close to the border with Belgium.

During this festival, you will be brought back to medieval times in France.  Gather around to see a medieval wrestling match, taste some old-world cuisine, and learn about medieval weapons. But that’s not all,  do you want to see fire-eaters? You will find them at this festival.
